What is Beauty and What is Boudoir?
The honest truth is that these are the same. Each person’s photoshoot is tailored to what they want it to be. No Boudoir photoshoot is the same. We define the details together.
So why do I use the word, Beauty? The simple answer is that it is less scary. You may associate boudoir with an idea of what it used to be.
In the past, Boudoir was like a dirty little secret. A photoshoot to get sexy pictures of yourself in lacey lingerie. But pioneering female photographers, have reclaimed the genre and made it work for women. A boudoir photoshoot is to be of service to the women that are its subjects. The purpose is to create beautiful photography portraits that will make you feel seen. That will make you, see you!
Boudoir as a genre, has only evolved over recent years. The reclamation means that Boudoir photography has become part of the “body-positive empowerment movement”. It’s about self-care, self-value and just as importantly, taking time for yourself.
What’s also important to me, is you walking away with your head held high with renewed confidence in yourself.
So How Does That All Work?
It works through communication. Get in touch. Tell me why you want to do this photoshoot. Tell me what you love about yourself. Let me discover you.
And it is ok if this photoshoot is to have pictures to gift to a partner! But know that it won’t be all that you walk away from it with. You will have had a lovely pampering make-up session and a confidence inspiring photoshoot, as well as your stunning pictures.
This is an experience for you. From the moment you get in touch you will be given more and more information. We will be getting to know each other so that when you arrive at my studio, nervous as hell because everyone is, you will not feel like I’m a stranger.
We will talk out what you want from these pictures. Pinterest, my website and other inspiration will help us to define how you would like to be seen, as sometimes this can be hard to articulate, and sometimes it’s because we don’t know until we have pinned 20 images that are similar.
Back to the difference between Beauty and Boudoir Photoshoots
What used to be the main difference was the anonymity of a picture, as in not showing your face, and being in a state of undress versus being more clothed and including shots of your face. But the evolution of the genre has blurred these lines and this is why it is tailored to you.
Boudoir means private dressing room and that is what the studio space is to you. It is a safe private space where you can be vulnerable and I will guide you through to confidence.
The Photoshoot Styling
When we discuss your preferences in our pre-shoot consultation, we will even discuss whether you want the bed set up, or if you would prefer a plain backdrop, or perhaps shoot against the window light.
During our photoshoot there is time to wear two different wardrobe pieces and these can be completely different styles and moods. It can be the sexy lingerie and it can be the beautiful beach cover up.
Some of the clothing are you will see in my pictures are from my Client Wardrobe and some have been brought in by clients themselves. I can clarify what I have during our discussion, as it may not all be shown in the prep guide, (I am constantly adding to the client wardrobe).
