You’ll be forgiven for thinking this place is closed. From the outside, the ABC4D Babyscan Clinic looks very unwelcoming. There is no window on the door and the blinds are always closed. No glimmer of light filters through, even on the darkest, rainiest days. So, you take the plunge and try the handle.
Inside, it’s shocking.
It’s warm and bustling and well lit. Not at all what you expected from the outside.
If you had started to worry that ABC4D web page is not authentic, this is the moment all fears melt away.
My Experience at the ABC4D Babyscan Clinic
The last time I visited ABC4D was over 4 years ago. I was pregnant with my third child and my husband was going to miss the 16-week scan. This scan is the one where you can find out the gender of the baby. Dave was desperate to know! More than me, I believe. We already had two boys and it felt like finding out the sex of our third child, would determine what kind of future our family would have. Would we end up with a flurry of pink, a future of painted nails and a “girl’s” bedroom? Or would we be adding to the wild bunch and forever be drowning in a sea of blues, greens, toy soldiers, monster trucks and nerf guns?
We had gone to the clinic as a family, so that my boys could find out at the same time as us. We thought it would be an interesting experience for everyone, and my boys aged 4 and 2 were welcomed there.
They waiting room had toys and books galore and they had a great time playing in the short time we had to wait.
Our scan was called the Gender Reveal. We were all taken into a small room and once I was settled on the bed, the lights were turned off. Everyone was quiet (unheard of when you live with two boys.) Just the soft swift sound of the keys clicking as she noted down our baby’s details. Every moment gaining more knowledge about our baby than we had. We let her work, measure, check, look, surmise, and eventually she told us, “It’s a girl!” Her biggest brother was delighted, while our 2-year old didn’t really get it. My husband and I both pleasantly surprised. My brain already planning what to do with all the baby boy clothes that I had kept, just in case.
We were well looked after, informed and so ultimately enjoyed our experience at the scan clinic.
How to find out more about ABC4D Babyscan Clinic
I was aware of the ABC4D Babyscan clinic because I live locally in Corstorphine and had been passed it many times. However, if you try to find out more information using social media, you won’t find any. They don’t have a strong social media presence and instead rely heavily on their website for you to find them.
But the website is good, full of information, lots of options and is very clear on prices.
It’s listed on Google as being open 24 hours a day, however the door can be found padlocked outside of office hours. The telephone number won’t get you through to your local branch directly but will get you through to a customer service team.
From looking at their website we learn that it is larger company with branches across Scotland, and that it is run by a Gynaecologist, Dr Evelyn Ferguson, who is also a mother of three.
All sites use state of the art equipment and employ highly trained sonographers.
There is nothing specific to your Local Corstorphine ABC4D branch, apart from the appointment calendar. To see this, you must enter some personal details and select a scan that you are interested in booking for.
The process is a bit clunky and you have to pay upfront, so it does feel like a leap of faith.
However, from my experience and other mothers I have spoken to about theirs, the knowledge you get from your scan appointment is worth it.
There is lots to find out too and they have lovely scan names. If you venture to the Packages tab at the top of the page, you will find a drop-down list of the scans available.
On each page, the scan findings are detailed, as well as the pregnancy weeks and cost. It is made clear what you will walk away with after your appointment, down to the number of print outs, and there’s also a Frequently Asked Question section about the bottom, for more information.

ABC4D Scan Clinic also perform Fertility tests and have support for recurring miscarriages.
They are a clinic that really cares.
They are a clinic that really wants you to be armed with knowledge so that you can maintain a successful pregnancy and grow your family. These consultations and in-depth tests do come at a cost, but sometimes these answers are needed quickly to allow you to move forward with your family planning and the scan clinic can do this for you.

If you don’t know Corstorphine well, you will quickly learn that parking close to St John’s Road, the main high street, is something of a challenge. However, there are many residential streets close by with plenty of available parking and only a few minutes’ walk away. Which is perfect for wiggling baby into a good scan position.
There is also a bus stop less than 1-minute walk to the Scan centre.
